Innovative Environmental and Radioactivity Measurement Technologies Awarded at the Silesian Innovator 2024 Gala

We are proud to announce that Researchers from the Silesian University of Technology received a total of three awards in various categories for developing groundbreaking technological and scientific solutions. One of the projects, awarded with a Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia Chairperson’s Special Award for Innovative Technologies in the Field of Environmental and Radioactivity Measurements, was recognised for solutions developed at the SUT and commercialised by its spin-out company, MiDose Solutions. The success of the project was possible thanks to our team of dedicated scientists, doctoral students, and students from the Institute of Physics at the Silesian University of Technology.

The Silesian University of Technology has once again proven to be a leader in innovation, significantly contributing to the development of technology and science in Silesia and throughout Poland.

MiDose Solutions participated in the Geospatial and Environmental Dynamics: Between Fundamental and Applied Scientific Research International Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia

The Conference took place on 14-16 November 2024, and was hosted by the University of Novi Sad. There, we presented our line of products and familiarised the participants with our solutions, both for luminescence (μDOSE, μDOSE+) and carbon (μGRAPHILINE) dating.

MiDose Solutions also prepared prizes for the best oral presentations prepared by a student. A huge congratulations to the winners for amazing presentations:

  • Petar Krsmanović et al. “Loess provenance in the westernmost part of the lower Danube Basin, Serbia: Geochemical insights from the Danube River terrace”
  • Luka Sabljić et al. “Advancing wildfire monitoring: remote sensing techniques and applications in the Sana river basin, Bosnia and Herzegovina”

First publication on μDOSE+ capabilities is out

First publication on μDOSE+ capabilities is out

The μDOSE+ System is an enhanced version of the recognised μDOSE System, which boasts numerous new features, described in detail in the just-published article by Tudyka et al. (2024).

The publication focusses closely on the key components that make the μDOSE+ System an advanced tool for radioactivity estimation: a unique triple scintillator setup (active shielding) to reduce background counts and improve the precision of dose rate measurements accuracy; additional ~59 kg of high purity copper shielding and optimised counting chamber geometry (passive shielding) for α and β counting efficiency increase; employment of pulse classification algorithms enhanced by UMAP/HDBSCAN* machine learning for precise differentiation between radiation particles and sensitivity enhancement; active 222Rn and 220Rn removal system to eliminate overcounting and allowing increased sample mass.

The reported advancements contribute to a significant reduction in background in the β counting window, improved α and β counting efficiency and easier sample handling.
